I believe that whole thread.
Here's my 2 cents of what went down:
IM's intro: They didn't turn the intro tape off so while the band was playing "One who points" the house speakers were playing something else. I've been told that during the 2nd song all that came out of the house speakers was static. After that all we had left to worry about was tripping over monitors. Like any show, shit will happen and happen frequently.
Thanks Randy and Igor for the triggers, however like the Alberta metalboard topic, IM and SF9 could not use drum triggers because Overkill was using all the channels....maybe they could have shared? I understand being the out of town band that the locals have to bend to whatever to make things work ect... Tonight was an eye opener for me as to the way the whole "music" machine works and that's as far as I'll go with that.
Thanks to all that came out to support us. As old as some of us may be, we don't forget who has come out to support us, so on behalf of Infernal Majesty thank you _________________ Torn From the Sky

Good show, first band sucked, IM was awsome but their sound (again) was hurting at the beginning. Overkill was awsome!!! The IM boys told me that Chris wasn't allowed to use triggers cause there wasn't enough channels...hmmm lets see...2 mics = 2 channels....2 triggers into 1 brain = 1 channel....someone should have beaten the sound guy!!!
IM...Good show boys!!! _________________ krankercrom

Meh... regarding preferential treatment about channels and sound, the fact is, ...cool as the local openers may or may not be...
the 160 people would not have paid $25 plus $7 TicketHostage fees to see SF9 and IM. Overkill has made many many albums that sold well all over the world blah blah blah... Once they got soundcheck just right they don't want to mess with it blah blah blah... anyway the openers went about their business just fine and they dealt with it.
Normal deal. Everybody got to rock. |

| Masking tape doesn't remember eq and compressor settings, effects sends and return levels etc. No touring sound guy wants to go through that reconfiguring hell to make the local openers (even if it WAS the mighty Infernal Majesty) sound good. When my old band opened for a major act, we would be thankful to get 8 channels through a 32 channel board at the commodore or the CCC....and half the power. So...4 channels, while TOTALLY lame, is fair by that logic. There's no possible way you're gonna sound good as a 4 or 5 piece. But it's the headliner's show, they make the rules. Just be happy to be there and playing to some new people. |

Yeah!!! This show kicked ass. First time seeing Overkill, third time seeing Infernal Majesty, and uh well SF9 was.... different. IMO the show started when IM came on. |

SF9 reminded me of Randy Rampage's old band, Fake It Big Time. No big coincidence that he played one of that band's songs in his set. _________________ "The truth is unpleasant, and therefore unpopular." |

Totally. Nothing wrong with some garage thrash on the bill, no reason to have three bands of identical genre.
The show :
Money grubbing dance club makes the show start at 8 o clock so that they can empty the club and make more money afterwords. Doors were not open yet, it was not dark yet. Overkill's bus looked like it had been in a mudstorm. Gerald and Ron were outside hanging around with Bobby.
Doors open, I went straight to the t-shirt table and so did other people. The shirts were cool. Got the same one as the poster for the show.
Stress Factor 9 came on stage and were jacked for sound. The first song was just drums and vocals for most of it. The bassists hands were moving, but no sound out front. By the second or third song, people started moving right up front and Randy Rampage was giving the performance that people know him for. Compared to Motorhead, the songs were more like Killed By Death than Ace of Spades. Couple of cool words and titles. They cooked at several different moments.
Infernal Majesty came on in armor and spikes and Judas Priest stuff, but they were totally sincere about it, so they made it work where some other bands might have seemed unserious. The new singer had a consistant screech throughout. The riffing was relentless. There wasn't any one song that I could tell apart from the other songs enough to remember later on after the show, but while they were playing they kept my attention. The sound job wasn't too bad or too good. More people moved forward.
Overkill's gear and banner were already on stage, and the club added extra lights. They came on big and played fast. Bobby has a sort of squeeky voice, but in an evil way... when he is singing. When he is talking, his Jersey accent was like a toughguy cab driver Ay, you talking to me ? The guitar players kept it up. They let the audience yell the parts we knew. Then they started losing their shirts and looking like a Steve Tyler and Joe Perry workout video. Memorable moments during the Thanks for nothing ! bits. DD was confident, but not overdoing it.
Then they kicked everyone out. |

| One thing that I noticed that I think is a very stupid idea is that they have no free glasses of water. You have to pay $3.50 if you want some water!! that's fucking bullshit, if you ask me. I can understand paying that if you want bottled water, but not even having the option of having a glass of water is pretty low. |

Can anyone vouch for whether or not the Calgary setlist was the same as what they played in Van? Obviously they played a cover of 'Dirty Deeds...' at the end, but I lost track of the order prior to that. Thanx ahead of time. |

| The trouble with having shit sound as an opener for the big name band... You know all those people who ONLY go to the big shows, like the 2000 people you see at Slayer shows who never go to any local shows, often times their excuse is because they think local bands suck, well of course thats what they think if the only time they ever see them is with half sound and half this and half that or the house sound guy who is high on crack vs. the $100 per night tour guy etc etc. |
